Trump Drops Pledge To Back Republican Presidential Nominee Other Than Himself

Republican front-runner Donald Trump on Tuesday abandoned a pledge to support a party presidential nominee other than himself, a sign of increasing friction with chief rival Ted Cruz.

"No, I don't anymore," Trump replied, when asked at a CNN town hall event whether he still supported a pledge he made last year to support whoever is the Republican nominee for the Nov. 8 election.

Trump's signing of a loyalty pledge last September was important in helping him gain credibility within the Republican National Committee. The pledge was also signed by all his rivals for the presidential nomination.

Businessman Slams N800m Suit Against Pastor Adefarasin, Church

Justice Adebisi Akinlade of the Lagos State High Court sitting in Igbosere will on April 7 hear an N800m suit slammed on Lagos pastor, Paul Adefarasin and his church, House on the Rock by a businessman, Gerald Chukwueke.

Chukwueke and four others through their counsel, Moyo Onigbanjo (SAN) are seeking the sum as damages against Adefarasin and his church for allegedly trespassing on their land located in Lekki area of the state.

The businessman and other claimants: Chinelo Chukwueke, Mrs. Martha Chukwueke, Germaine Logistics Limited & Germaine Auto Centre Limited are also seeking from the defendants the sum of N180m as solicitor fees.

Federal Government Introduces 9% Tax On Voice Calls – See Other Interesting Ones!

The Marketing Communication experts have condemned the proposed communications tax bill before the Eight National Assembly, describing the bill as evidence that the Federal Government “isn’t sensitive to the plight of the people”.

If the proposed communications tax bill is passed to law, telecoms subscribers in Nigeria may be facing tougher times in the months ahead.

The bill, entitled ‘Communication Service Tax Bill (“CST” or the “Bill”) 2015’, seeks to enforce, charge and collect communication service tax (CST) on all electronic communication services at nine per cent which will be borne by subscribers. if passed govt. will make reaping over N20 billion monthly from Nigerian subscribers if the bill is enacted into law.

Sokoto To Wed 100 Couples Before June

The Sokoto State Government says it has set aside N30million for the organisation of the wedding of 100 couples in the area. The mass wedding is being coordinated by the State Sunnah Mediation Council.

The Chairman of the Council, Alhaji Aliyu Kofar-Rini, said in Sokoto that the wedding would be conducted before the commencement of Ramadan.

By the Islamic calendar, Ramadan is expected to begin in June. He said the council would pay the bride prices of all the female partners – N30,000 for spinsters and N20,000 for divorcees.

“The brides will also be trained in some skills like knitting, sewing, pomade and detergents making, among others. They will also be assisted with working tools and capital,” Kofar-Rini, explained.

He added that each couple would receive N75,000 to enable it to settle down properly to marital life.

Congo strongman Denis Sassou Nguesso was today declared the country’s winner of the presidential elections, extending his 32 years in power in a vote the opposition says was marked by "massive fraud".

Interior Minister Raymond Zephyrin Mboulou announced the results at 3:30am (0230 GMT) on national television, saying Sassou Nguesso had secured 60 percent of the vote in the tense weekend poll held under an ongoing communications blackout.

The official count gave runner-up Guy-Brice Parfait Kolelas 15 percent of the vote, while General Jean-Marie Michel Mokoko came in third with 14 percent.

See Changes Made To The 2016 Budget Passed By The Senate

The Senate, on Wednesday, passed the 2016 Appropriation Bill and reduced the budget size from the initial N6.077trn presented to the federal parliament by President Muhammadu Buhari on December 23, 2015, to N6.060trn, a difference of N17bn.

The federal lawmakers approved the N1.587trn as the capital expenditure portion of the budget and the recurrent expenditure of N2.646.3trn. They also approved N351.37bn as Statutory transfers, N1.475.3trn for Debt Service, and N2.2trn for Fiscal deficit.

The federal parliamentarians also adopted the oil benchmark of $38; Crude production of 2.2000m barrel per day and the exchange rate of N197 to $1 for the implementation of the budget.

Anti-Saraki Senators Back Down, Rally Round Embattled Senate President

Some All Progressives Congress senators who opposed the election of Bukola Saraki as Senate President, held a rare meeting Tuesday with Mr. Saraki’s key supporters from the same party, casting aside differences that for months polarised the ruling party’s senate caucus.

The meeting between the anti-Saraki group’s so-called Unity Forum and pro-Saraki’s Like Minds, had in attendance 10 senators – five from each of the two camps. It took place at the Asokoro residence of Aliyu Wammako, a former Sokoto State governor.

The two sides had for months opposed the other, with some members of Unity Group pushing for Mr. Saraki’s removal.

According to Vanguard, a suspect identified as Happiness Umaru, was intercepted at Eric Moore in Surulere by policemen attached to the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, at about 10p.m. on March 16.  It was gathered that during interrogation Umaru initially claimed to be the biological father of the baby.

He later confessed that he found the baby around Ijora Railway, when he went into a bush to answer the call of nature.

After the case was transferred to the Gender Department for further investigation, officers from the unit visited the scene of the incident, where they located the biological mother of the baby.

Enough Is Enough, NLC Tells Gov El-Rufai

Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, yesterday, said their members had been pushed to the wall by the policies and actions   of Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, and warned, “Enough is enough”.

The two bodies also directed Kaduna State government workers to converge on the state secretariat of the NLC for a “super congress” where they said a  decision would be taken on a matter that borders on the interference of the state government on union matters.

The two unions were reacting on the Verification Form given   given to workers with a clause on whether they wanted to belong to unions or not. The President of NLC, Comrade Ayuba Waaba, and his TUC counterpart, Comrade Shehu Ayuba, addressed a joint press conference, yesterday in Kaduna on the issue.

Ibinabo Fiberesima has opened up on the accident which killed a doctor  which led to her  five year jail sentence.

“Since the incident happened, I have learnt how not to trust anybody any more. I put my trust now in the Lord. And this is better explained in the new song I recorded. The music captures my story. Emotionally, I have been drained and to some extent humiliated, even in public…I wasn’t happy that I was involved in that accident. I have said it over and over again that I’m deeply sorry that it ever happened.
I don’t know how else to atone for the accident. I started begging my victim’s family from the very day the accident happened. My family attended the funeral rites and service of songs and I even attended the 40 days prayer when I was strong enough to move about. I met with the mother and the wife of the deceased. A 65-year-old retired headmistress, Mrs. Clara Uwaifo, has been reportedly shot dead by a suspected teenage cultist in Benin City, capital of Edo state.
Mrs. Uwaifo who retired from Uwelu Primary School, Benin, last August‎, was allegedly gunned down on Wednesday, March 15, at the gate of her residence at 27, Oviawe Street, Off Upper Siluko Road, Ogida Quarters, at about 3:00 pm,PM News reports.
The deceased, a widow, was said to have met her sudden death while returning from the hospital where she had gone to see her daughter who had just delivered a baby.
When journalists visited the scene of the incident on Friday, sympathizers who besieged the compound were placing curses on the killer of the woman.
