Fixing Orientation Camp During Ramadan Wrong- Muslim Body

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has faulted the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for fixing its orientation camp during the month of Ramadan.

Prospective corps members of batch A stream II are expected to report to camps across the nation on Monday. But MURIC described the decision to open the camp at this period as unconstitutional, calling on the authorities to postpone the programme.

President Obama Endorses Hillary Clinton

President Obama has officially endorsed Hillary Clinton as the Democratic Party presidential nominee. His endorsement came after meeting Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders who has been battling Mrs Clinton for the nomination.

Evoh Chukwu, a justice of the federal high court, Abuja, is dead. Chukwu presided over the alleged forgery case against Senate President Bukola Saraki and Ike Ekweremadu, deputy senate president.

Some senators opposed to the leadership of the 8th senate had filed a suit alleging that the senate standing order used for the election of Saraki and Ekweremadu was forged.

According to a statement issued by Emmanuel Gako, the court’s chief registrar, Chukwu died after a brief illness.

NNPC Pays N56 Billion To The Federation Account

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) said it paid N56.22 billion into the Federation Account in April 2016.

This is contained in the corporation’s Monthly Financial Report released in Abuja on Thursday.
“NNPC transferred N56.22 billion to the Federation Account for the month of April being proceeds from local sale of petroleum products.

The Police has warned that there should be no celebration as Muslims are observing the Holy Month of Ramadan. The Office of the Inspector General of Police in honour of the Holy Month released a statement informing the General Public that all ceremonies, festivities and programs that involves drumming, music and dance during the day or at night are prohibited.

All those engaged in the practice are therefore warned to desist from such acts other wise they will be apprehended and made to face the law without compromise, the statement added.

The Inspector General of Police, went on by advising the General Public to report any such persons or groups to the police as stern action will be taken against those found wanting of violations.

Lagos Police Command Arrests Fake Cop For Impersonation, And Extorting Money From The Public

The Lagos State Police Command on Wednesday arrested a suspect, 32-year-old Austin Okwuokei, for impersonating and parading himself as a policeman at the Costain area of the state, where he was extorting money from commercial motorists.

Dressed in police uniform, the suspect who was picked up from the Costain roundabout in Iponri area, was said to have been successfully extorting money from unsuspecting motorists, whom he forced to part with money.

Federal Government Set To Launch Home-Grown School Feeding Programme

Nigeria’s first national Home Grown School Feeding programme which would affect about 5.5m Nigerians in the first year of its operation would be rolling out soon in several states, preceded by a Stakeholders Forum holding in Aso Rock on Thursday to be addressed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN.

Maria Sharapova Banned From Tennis For Two Years

Maria Sharapova has been suspended from tennis for two years today for testing positive for meldonium at the Australian Open. She however immediately responded by saying she would appeal the decision to sport’s highest court.

The ruling by an independent three-person panel appointed by the International Tennis Federation said Sharapova did not intend to cheat, but that she bore “sole responsibility” and “very significant fault” for the positive test.

“While the tribunal concluded correctly that I did not intentionally violate the anti-doping rules, I cannot accept an unfairly harsh two-year suspension,” Sharapova said in a statement.

A clinic for Facebook addicts has opened in Algeria amid fears vulnerable users are becoming brainwashed by extremist Islamist groups on the 'blue magic' social network.

The private facility has been opened in the eastern city of Constantine offering programmes specifically designed for social media users.

The clinic's director, Human development scientist Raouf Boqafa, said he feared some vulnerable users were being targeted by Islamists who use the site as a recruitment tool.
