The umbrella organization of all commercial vehicles owners and entire petroleum tanker drivers in Nigeria will withdraw their services in seven days if outstanding claims owed to them by government and major oil marketers are not paid, Daily Trust claims.
The Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) and Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) issued the warning after an emergency meeting of the association in Abuja Tuesday. The claims relate to monies owed them for transporting products to different destinations of the country.
“If by seven days from today all the authorities concerned do not come back to us and do what they are expected to do we will withdraw our services meaning we will park our trucks in our garages and the trucks will not move anywhere.” NARTO President Alh. Kassim Bataiya said.
If the transporters withdraw their services, the consequence is that there will be no movement of petroleum product nationwide as Nigeria relies on truck for about 98 per cent of fuel distribution.
