Ibe Kachikwu Addresses Civil Servants As He Assumes Office As Minister Of State For Petroleum Resources

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu after his appointment visited the Ministry of Petroleum Resources where he met with the Permanent Secretary and others in the ministry.

Kachikwu disclosed that efforts will be geared towards ensuring that the working environment and perception of the ministry is changed.

Kachikwu said; “The working environment and perception of this ministry must change and we are working on that in NNPC as well. Leadership must come from the ministry. We have dwindling resources and we must see how to cut costs and improve on earnings” the minister added.

PDP Admits Mistake In Governance, Says It’s Ready To Transform Into A Youth-Oriented Party

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party has apologised to Nigerians for some of the mistakes the party made while it was in power between 1999 and 2015.

The party’s apologies were conveyed by the Chairman of the planning committee of the PDP National Conference, Raymond Dokpesi while addressing the media Tuesday in Abuja.

“We are aware of the errors of the past 16 years, as human beings, we must have made mistakes and we could not meet the expectations of Nigerians, for that we tender an unreserved apology,” Mr. Dokpesi said.

“Make no mistake, the PDP is aware that there were errors made along the way.

“We admit that at certain times in our past, mistakes have been made, we did not meet the expectations of Nigerians,” he said.

Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) buried along the road linking new Marte-Dogongida-Kerenowa in Borno, have been cleared, the army said in a statement.

One of the armed robbers terrorizing VGC Estate in Lagos was caught in the early hours of today. The robber and his gang came to rob a house but were unsuccessful as armed guards opened fire. PDP Made a Mistake By Fielding Goodluck Jonathan – Raymond Dokpesi


The Chairman of DAAR communications, Chief Raymond Dokpesi, is the latest in a long line of former supporters and loyalists who are now hitting out at the former President.

Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan lost his reelection bid and ended a 16 year hold the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have had on political power since the transition to civilian rule in 1999.

The PDP has found itself in a strange position as an opposition party and has spent the larger part of its time apportioning blame for the results of the last general election. Chief Raymond Dokpesi in a media chat admitted that the PDP has made a number of errors among which adopting Goodluck Jonathan as the sole candidate in the 2015 election.

CBN gives customers BVN reprieve

Customers yesterday got a breather on the Bank Verification Number (BVN), with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) directing banks to ensure their uninterrupted enrolment on the platform.

In a statement signed by its Director (Corporate Communications) Ibrahim Mu’azu, the CBN said although the time frame for the initial enrolment had elapsed, the exercise should go on indefinitely.

The BVN, which captures bank customers’ biometric data, such as  fingerprints, provides unique identification for them and equally protects their accounts from unauthorised access, identity theft and fraud.

Customers who are yet to register are required to do so to avoid restrictions on their accounts.

The Olu of Warri designate, Prince Godfrey Emiko, will be crowned the 20th Olu of Warri on December 12, 2015.

Chief Yaya Pessu, Ojomo of Warri Kingdom and Chairman, Warri Traditional Council, who disclosed this to newsmen in Warri, Delta State, yesterday, said that Abiloye’s coronation would be preceded by the final funeral rites for his predecessor, HRM, Ogiame Atuwatse II.


The late Olu’s funeral rites will however begin on the 20th of this month and should last for 14 days, before Prince Godfrey will be is crowned.

Policeman Found Dead In His Car

There was shock at the Police Training School on Oba Akinjobi Way in the Ikeja area of Lagos on Tuesday when policemen and shop owners found a corporal lying dead in his car.

Punch Metro learnt that the corporal, Elias Agi, with force number 386982, who was suspected to have died of drug overdose, was found dead around 7.30am in his blue Volkswagen Passat car.

It was gathered that Agi, who was attached to the Safer Highway Patrol, Lagos State Police Command, had been one of the officers undergoing the corporal-to-sergeant promotion course at the school.

Punch Metro learnt that the promotion is divided into two parts: an examination section and an interview.

Rivers State Governor, Wike Bans Street Protests,Condemns Biafra Protest

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has banned all forms of street protests in the state, condemning the street protests by the Indigenous People of Biafra which have crippled commercial activities in the state. The governor declared : “let no one be in doubt of the resolve of the Rivers State Government and the security agencies to maintain law and order at all cost within the State and preserve the unity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.” In a state-wide broadcast on Tuesday night, Governor Wike decried the movement of protesters from neighbouring States into Rivers State, noting that they have inflicted injuries on other citizens going about their lawful businesses.

Rowan Atkinson, 60 and wife Substrate, 54, were today granted a divorce after he left her for 32 year old Louise Ford. There divorce was granted on the grounds of "unreasonable behavior ". Atkinson has been dating Louise Ford for 18 months.

A source said Sierra was deeply upset to be replaced by such a younger woman.

The Abia Police Command, on Tuesday confirmed that it had arrested a woman who allegedly sold her three-year-old grandson to a ritualist.

The Abia State police spokesman, DSP Udeviotu Onyeke told journalists that investigation is ongoing, part of which is to determine the woman’s sanity.dibia

The woman, who hailed from Onitsha Ngwa in Obingwa Local Government of the state, it was gathered, had left the village with the child and returned a week later with a report that he was missing.

Further questioning by residents of the village made them become suspicious, prompting them to invite the police.

It was gathered that the suspect allegedly informed the police that she sold the boy for N100,000 to a native doctor in Akwa Ibom and wanted to use the money to buy a motorcycle before end of the year.

DSP Onyeke however, said that the woman had since changed her statement, claiming that the boy was with her sister in Aba.

Chad Declares State Of Emergency In Region Hit By Boko Haram

Chad has declared a state of emergency around the Lake Chad region following attacks from Boko Haram militants in the region recently. The region which borders Nigeria, also faces similar problems with its Nigerian neighbors after a recent attack around the Lake Chad region left two people dead.
Despite setting up a regional Joint task force, the five nations fighting Boko Haram have not been able to crush the terrorist group.
Chadian authorities have decided to declare a state of emergency to enable restriction on movement around the region as well as to give the military sweeping powers to search and arrest suspects. It is hoped that such broad powers will contain terrorist attacks in the region.
